Fees, Charges, Penalties

The City is authorized to impose fees, charges, and penalties for a variety of permits, licenses, and services. The City Council adopts a comprehensive fee schedule on an annual basis. The fees contained in the current adopted Fee Schedule supersede any reference to prior fees mentioned in the City Code.

For example, the City requires permits for:
·        building (any work that erects, constructs, enlarges, alters, repairs, moves, improves, removes, converts or
demolishes any building, structure, or portion thereof, including swimming pools of a certain size,
solar systems/panels, decks)
·        septic system installation/maintenance
·        new driveway access
·        mechanical, plumbing
·        HVAC, fireplace, solid fuel burning stove
·        ROW and public utility easement work
·        Any exception to the zoning code

Proposed work specified in any permit application is NOT to be started until the application fee is paid, the application is approved, and the permit issued. There are City penalties and legal costs associated with starting a project before obtaining the required permit(s) or never obtaining the proper permit.

The fee schedule also contains fees for other city licenses and services that do not require a permit.
